1. Agreement to Terms

By downloading, installing, or using UnifyMail (the "Software"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the Software.

These Terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you and the UnifyMail project contributors ("we", "us", or "our").

2. Privacy Policy

Our Privacy Policy describes how we handle the information you provide to us when you use the Software. You understand that through your use of the Software you acknowledge the collection and use of this information as set forth in the Privacy Policy.

3. Changes to Terms

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. If we make changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Your continued use of the Software after any changes constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.

We encourage you to review the Terms periodically. Material changes will be communicated through our GitHub repository or the Software itself.

4. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years of age to use the Software. By using UnifyMail, you represent and warrant that you meet this age requirement. If you are under 18, you represent that your legal guardian has reviewed and agrees to these Terms.

5. The Software

UnifyMail is free, open-source software licensed under the GNU General Public License v3.0 (GPLv3). This means you are free to:

  • Use the Software for any purpose
  • Study how the Software works and modify it
  • Redistribute copies of the Software
  • Distribute copies of your modified versions to others

The full text of the GPLv3 license is available in the LICENSE file included with the Software. In the event of any conflict between these Terms and the GPLv3 license, the GPLv3 license shall prevail with respect to the source code.

There are no paid tiers, subscriptions, or premium features. The Software is entirely free.

6. Using the Services

UnifyMail connects directly to your email provider(s) using standard protocols (IMAP, SMTP, CalDAV, CardDAV). The Software runs locally on your computer and does not route your email through any third-party relay or cloud service operated by us.

You are responsible for:

  • Maintaining the security of your device and email credentials
  • Complying with your email provider's terms of service
  • Any activity that occurs through your email accounts while using the Software

7. Feedback and Contributions

We welcome community contributions. If you submit code via pull requests to the UnifyMail repositories, you agree to license your contributions under the same GPLv3 license as the project.

By submitting feedback, suggestions, or ideas through GitHub Issues, Discussions, or other channels, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, incorporate, and build upon that feedback.

8. Content Ownership

You own your data. UnifyMail does not claim any ownership rights over your emails, contacts, calendar events, or any other personal data processed by the Software.

Your email content is stored locally on your device and on your email provider's servers. We do not have access to, store, or process your email content on any servers we operate.

9. General Prohibitions

While using UnifyMail, you agree not to:

  • Use the Software for any unlawful purpose or to send spam, malware, or phishing emails
  • Attempt to interfere with, compromise, or disrupt the Software or the experience of other users
  • Use the UnifyMail name, logo, or branding in a way that suggests official endorsement without permission
  • Redistribute modified versions of the Software under the UnifyMail name without clearly indicating that it is a modified version
  • Violate any applicable local, state, national, or international law

10. Third-Party Services

UnifyMail integrates with third-party email providers (Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, etc.) using standard protocols. These providers have their own terms of service and privacy policies that govern your use of their services.

We are not responsible for the practices, content, or availability of any third-party services. Your interactions with third-party email providers are solely between you and that provider.

11. Termination

As open-source software, you may stop using UnifyMail at any time by uninstalling it. Your email data remains with your email provider and on your local device.

We may discontinue development or distribution of the Software at any time, but the open-source license ensures that existing copies and forks remain available.

12. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

We do not warrant that the Software will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components. You use the Software at your own risk.

13. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL THE UNIFYMAIL CONTRIBUTORS BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS OR REVENUES, WHETHER INCURRED DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY, OR ANY LOSS OF DATA, USE, GOODWILL, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES RESULTING FROM:

  • Your use or inability to use the Software
  • Any unauthorized access to or alteration of your data
  • Any third-party conduct related to the Software
  • Any other matter relating to the Software

14. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless the UnifyMail contributors from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or in any way connected with your use of the Software or your violation of these Terms.

15. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the jurisdiction in which the primary maintainer resides, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.
